STD infections are becoming a menace in this current era. This may be due to the increase in irresponsible sexual behavior in the society. Due to increased concern by part of the society an STD awareness month was created at the 2009 Congressional Resolution to help in raising awareness.
It is set aside to raise awareness and help people reflect on their sexual actions and all that involve this STD. We all remember April 1st for none of us want to be fooled but forget how this month is vital to us concerning our sexual behavior. Spread of STD is common among the youth from the age of 15 to 24.
STD can be easily tested cured, and in some cases that the disease is not curable, positive living can be of benefit to the patient. This awareness is meant to educate people the types of STD, their transmission, effects, testing, and treatment. I have explained specific aspects that relate to STD below.
Different types of STD
Gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, Syphilis or Chlamydia are some of the common STDs.
Effects of HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS is the most known STI in the world. This STI has no scientific know cure up to date. Some drugs also referred to as ARVs are what that are given to help control its spread and its effects on the body.
A healthy balanced diet, physical exercises, taking drugs without fail is just but a few things to observe when living with this virus. It is transmitted through sexual encounters with infected persons, from a mother to child in some cases through blood transfusion.
A mother can infect an unborn child in the womb or during breastfeeding if proper caution is not considered. The infant can only be breastfed with the mother’s milk for six months in an exclusive manner in infected mothers.
Condoms, abstaining or proper blood screening before any transmission is among the many preventative measures.
It is commonly spreading and affecting many people especially in the US.The good news is that most bacterium that causes it is treatable the only one that has proven resistant to medication. Gonorrhea is known to cause infertility in all genders if not treated early. A condom or total abstaining from any sexual activity can help prevent this STI.
It damages the nervous system and brain if it advances to its late stages. It can get passed from an infected person through genital sex, oral sex or anal. It is just, but a few of STD present in the world today.
Examining the symptoms, testing and treatment of STD
A test can be done in a health facility with certified medics . This is done once blood, urine or a swab is collected from the patient’s body. If results are positive the doctors will advice accordingly.
